Unfortunately advice given for this situation is often misdirected. I tried to do the same after disabling the audio at startup in the BIOS options, but still no luck. The most common cause is the aucio of the wrong - typically the modem - device as the default instead of the sound card.
Check if it helps. Of course, make sure you don't need the modem or if you do, troubleshoot reinstalling that while not affecting the audio.

I booted from the CD and audio tested perfectly fine in the diagnostics environment.

I tried everything such as reinstalling drivers etc but when I removed the deice my audio worked perfectly with the driver. When I went to Device Manager, it showed that the latest drivers had been installed and that the audio was working fine.
